My horoscope for this first week in September:
When I went to a hard-core rock festival recently, all but one of the bands I heard made abundant use of the f-word. They invoked it so often, both in their songs and between-song patter, that it got boring. The lone group that departed from the norm did express gleeful rage, but it was with a phrase I rarely hear anymore. "I don't give a damn," the singer shouted at the end of one song. I laughed at the archaic modesty of the expression, but it stayed with me more than the histrionics the other bands preferred. That brings me to the advice I have for you, Pisces: Get to the root of your anger and then render it with an understated craft that sets it apart from the overwrought venting that everyone has grown numb to.

An analysis of satellite records and surface monitoring instruments shows the ozone layer has grown a bit thicker in some parts of the world, but is still well below normal levels, the scientists report in Wednesday's issue of the Journal of Geophysical Research.
I can't believe this. The world seems to have been turned on it's ear, the ozone is repairing itself and I have already done ONE THOUSAND POSTS!!!

Well, I would have been in Japan. But Taiwan! Recently, he said that he found Pepperidge Farm cookies there. I wonder what I would miss if I went to another country?
Oldster I also found him by clicking on the next blog button. A seventy year old blogger, I wonder if I will still be blogging when I am seventy? The idea is riveting.
Garden of Transition I found this blog by going to my profile and clicking on the Buffy interest. She was one of many. ^.^ Anyway, she uses 'devil's drawers' to express herself and poses for pictures with donkies. No, not that kind. I think I will be coming back to this blog.
The Commons Blog is a collaborative web log dedicated to the principle of promoting environmental quality and human dignity and prosperity through markets and property rights. Put more simply, it’s about free markets protecting the environment. I couldn't help buy add in an org blog. I find them interesting, although I tend to be a little more skeptical of org blogs than individuals blogs. I have no idea why that is.
The Cartoonist I clicked on a random blogroll link from a friend's site. Just a lot of silly 'n pretty pictures. Such is life.

One of the biggest themes in the movie was that young women do not wear enough clothing these days. I remember when wearing short skirts was risky, but now? I think all out nudity is the biggest risk.

My posts lately have made way too much sense. Below is a list of randomness.

1. I find myself scratching my chigger bites in public and worry that strangers will slowly move away from me, afraid of contamination.
2. There is a chance that I will be baking this weekend, as well as seeing my friend get drunk!
3. I might be helping a friend get addicted to Buffy.

5. Realizing I must go to Blockbuster tonight.

Extend

Extend your self. Have you ever wanted to go out in public as someone other than you? I'm not talking about morphing or slipping on someone else's skin by means of a potoin a la JK Rowling. But, just putting on a different personality. Almost as if you were playing your twin. If friends stop to say hi, then you just act confused, put on a French accent and tell them you are on your way to the zoo to have tea with a hippo. And really, that personality is just an extension of yourself. It's one role that you play in your life, magnified. You shape it, stick with only a certain phrase ('Fabulous!'), wear pastels and never use public transportation on a Tuesday. It's the U of you. Just a part that wasn't quit noticed before. Some women do this on dates, or when they go out to concerts or fests. I get to do it about once a month, and it still frightens me. Being someone else isn't so bad. But the reactions that I get from others does. We forget sometimes that it's not us. That that isn't really my friend that I am talking to. It's just an extension of thems. A dream. Working out some kind of fantasy that they normally wouldn't be able too. After all, don't we all wish at some point or another that we were born elves?

Flying Spaghetti Monster!

Now, there is the Flying Spaghetti Monster. I had not heard of it until I visited J-Walk. Apparently a Pastafarian religion has been created and now wish that their theory of how the world began also be taught in schools. Here is the letter that they sent to the Kansas School Board. I like that the Flying Spaghetti Monster prefers to wear 'full pirate regalia' instead of a toga.

1. What superhero power would you most like to have, and why? I think that I might go for the Raven package (of Teen Titans). She can move objects, fly, super strength, and then there is the whole dark energy that she can only control by meditating every day.

2. When you were 5, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a veterinarian until I realized that I might have to put someone’s puppy to sleep, or tell someone that his or her animal would not live longer. Or, see all of the mistreated animals. I don’t think that I would last long in that kind of situation.

3. What is your favorite meal to cook for others? I have been successful with my lasagna and have recently started to make broccoli raisin salad. For dessert, I please everyone with my sex in a pan.

4. What is the most embarrassing CD that you own? Ooh…this is a hard question. Mostly because what is embarrassing for me would be normal for others. So…I have: Dr. Demento, Scottish version of a Metalica song, and several tv theme songs. Including the A-teams. Something that I used to own, that would embarrass me now (especially if when played, it would prove that I still know the words) would be the New Kids on the Block tape. Yeah. That would have to be it.

5. What is the last good book that you read (for fun)?
‘Good Omens’ by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchet. And yes, that even beat out Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince. ‘Good Omens’ is about the friendship between and angel and a demon and the apocalypse.

Join Up?

Here. I believe I have found an author that I am going to greatly enjoy. I don't believe that I have read any of her books before. I have seen the movie for 'A Handmaid's Tale'. I remember how it haunted me when I was younger. A friend of mine just finished the Robber Bride, and after I read the review, I was quite intrigued! I've been wanting to read about empowered women. I know this sounds sad, but after I finished watching all of BTVS, I was looking for more strong women characters to watch/read. It surprised me how hard to was to think of them when I had to. Sometime soon I might stop by the local library or bookstore on my walk to see if her books are available and as good of a read as they sound. The way that I test a prospective book is to read the first page. If I find myself thirsting for more, then I know it's a keeper. I might not be able to start reading until September. Perhaps some of you might be willing to join me in reading her books? I will let you know when I will start and which books.

I remember the mood ring I had as a girl. It was mostly dark blue.

This store is hott!!! Lots of gypsy style clothes.
I really did a number on my hand this weekend. I shopped at Goody's for work clothes. They had all of the same clothes as the stores in the mall, and everywhere I looked, I kept saying to myself: OMG! That is just what Buffy wore!
After an hour of walking around, holding an arm load of clothing, I finally got a cart. My arm and hand were numb, and later that night I experienced a really bad spasm. So, for now, enjoy some virtual shopping!

In Every Sense of the Word

Because of T-Rez, I am getting my shoe-fetish on. I found these beauties at prada.I can't imagine paying that much for a shoe. But then again...any price is acceptable if the comfort level is there. I blame Sims for making me aware of my comfort level. I just wish my calf muscles would cooperate so I could strut around in boots like these.

I saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on Friday. It WAS MARVELOUS!!! Just beautiful and wonderful in every way!!! VJ, totally agree w/ your favorite lines! I think I will need to watch it several more times though before I can recite the movie as it deserves. BTW, loved Noah Taylor. He's a good actor. Loved Helena's teeth too!

SPOILER (i just wish that they had more than one actor play the oompa loompas, although Doris was more than amusing! oh, and STOP IT WITH THE PREVIEWS!!! some people wouldn't even have to buy a ticket! we cracked up every time he walked into his elevator.)

My new love: pictures on cd. I also discovered that I didn't have to download anything to use the new image tool. My computer at home is still now working, and I am completely fine with that. It just means that I won't be able to post any random digi-shots of stuff. Is it possible to crave taking candid shots with a camera? Or is that some sick fetish that only I have?



Look! A llama! I shall name him Duck! I really do want to have a llama farm when I am old. Glenn is SO NOT ready for that yet. But maybe one day I can talk him into it. Just look how cute they are! And just think of all of the roving I could get and sell from them. I would definitely learn more than just how to crochet a bag or a scarf.



This is my little dog Sweet Pea. She currently lives with my parents and all of the other animals. I love my dog and I am not ashamed. She is cute and loves me. She was very cute (and kinda mean) as a puppy. But now, she is like a sweet little biddy. Biddy, does anyone use that word anymore?

This article is unbelievable!!! Helping Boys Become Men, and Girls Become Women: Is My Child Becoming Homosexual?
The one line that caught my attention the most in this article about certain signs to watch for in your son was: "A susceptibility to be bullied by other boys, who may tease them unmercifully and call them 'queer,' 'fag' and 'gay.'"
Does that mean that they are teaching their child that if they are being bullied, then the bullies are right? That because they are gay, they should be bullied and ridiculed 'unmercifully'?!

Just a Memory

This happened the first year that we lived in Arkansas.
CNN.com - Jonesboro school shooter free - Aug 12, 2005: "'I'm glad he's not coming back to Jonesboro. Too many people in this area would put a hole in him,' resident Greg Slayton said. Whitney Irving, a student at the middle school when the shootings occurred, said she and others still struggle to cope with what happened seven years ago. 'I want to ask him personally: Have you changed? Do you feel sorry for what you did? Have you suffered like we have?' she said. 'Of course, there's no way he's suffered as much as we have.' She added, 'In my eyes, he's always going to be a killer. I mean I don't see how you can go from being a killer to being a minister, especially just in seven years.'"
Several things come to mind about this. I understand the grief of all the families involved. But I keep coming back to Mitchell Johnson. I wonder how much he remembers about that day. How clearly he was thinking. What would I have done if one of my friends just opened fire at my school. I remember feeling really distant to what happened, even though it was just a few hours away. To see it broadcast on CNN was unreal. How could a child do that? Hasn't this happened before? What have we been missing?
No reason was given and it soon became one in several unexplained school shootings. Everyone was blaming each other. Kids were wondering what the hell was going on and if they might be next. Security alerts were heightened, some schools adding in metal detectors. It's still going on today with video games and no short supply of ritalin. I can't imagine what it would be like to get a phone call that there had been a shooting at the school where my child is at. Was my child shot? Do I know who the shooter was? God help us.

Foolish Thoughts for a Friday on Evolution

I grew up watching movies like Baby, E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I never doubted that stuff like that couldn't be real. I knew how to distinguish between a profiteer and a believer. I knew enough never to talk about it too much in public. At the same time, I also remember my teachers not discrediting any of these theories. (I've been realizing more and more how much of a liberal schooling I had - and that's saying something for catholics today!)

I'm more interested now to find out about places that have a 'history' of sorts with natural phenomena or ancient peoples that somehow knew more about our solar system than our western civilization did back in the 1300's. A temple in Angkor has some peculiar art work about creautes that (I assumed) come from more modern legend. There is even a carving of a stegosaurous. How would they know about dinosaurs? Our culture did not study dinosaurs until the early 1800's. And yet, here in this little temple on the other side of the world is a carving of a stegosaurous! Not of the bones or some fantasical creature, but the dinosaur!

I never imagined that people before us had found the bones of dinosaurs, or if they had, that they would think that the bones were of anything but a dinosaur. Ancient Mysteries did a show on Greek mythology. They wondered if the great creatures (like the centaur, griffin and cyclops) weren't really based on fossils found by the Greeks. There is even other speculation about some creatures from the Bible. I think that all of this is wonderful! To find out how we created these myths and legends, how they have influenced us. I used to love to study Greek mythology! When I was younger I used to imagine what it must have been like to worship at the different temples. To speak as though the gods really were walking among us, and see how it influenced everyday deeds (like how you treat your guests). Now...it's different. Like we have been going about studying ourselves, our history, our planet all wrong. Yet, look what we have created.

I'm a doodler. Whenever I am talking on the phone, or waiting for the teacher to continue talking while I keep notes. In fact, I think that is the one thing I do not like about computers: no real template to doodle on. Unless you consider highlighting randomly while reading an art. In regards to Invader Zim and robots in general…

When I was younger I thought that the world was created for me, and that everyone in it was a robot. Or some kind of synthetic human and I was being tested or raised by some other beings. Maybe mice a la Hitchhiker’s Guide. I realize now that a lot of people feel the same way growing up. You never know if you are normal, and there is no way to tell. Just like you will never know that what someone perceives as the color green is the same color green that you see. That might explain some fashions that I have seen though, not really the world.

In that one second of really wondering, sincere imagining the ‘what if’ the people you know and love are not really there, I feel lost. Are my passions and fears real? Or do I entertain myself with this sick fantasy because I am afraid to be myself? Maybe this is why I used to eat chocolate so much, and find myself absorbing it now. Crap. Where’s a chocolate fudge torte cake when you need one?

I discovered that I am twelve posts away from ONE THOUSAND posts to this blog. O N E T H O U S A N D!!! I discovered via Shai that you can get a nifty little button once you reach the mark!

My blog also mysteriously celebrated it's one year anniversary last month! I kinda like the mystery date, just knowing that I made it to another July is awesome. I celebrated in making my blog public. Apparently it was not. Must have been a freak-out phase I was going through to turn it public. Tra lala!

In other news, I got Jen to bring me down menus so I could choose my lunch. Now that's power! ;)

Mute the Shrill Cry of Pain

We have been watching a lot of Invader Zim lately. Rather, my husband has, while I slept last night, and then again at 5:30 this morning. I keep wondering if everyone in that show is an alien, and the only earthling is GIR. GIR made Caz dance. She dances like Elaine.

My hands are getting better. They haven't spasmed latley and I'm hoping it's the new gloves and better hand posture. I've even started to draw some, and allow myself only one creative project a night. Again, I will advise everyone to AVOID GETTING CTS AT ALL COSTS!!! Imagine if you could not use your hands. They go numb when you drive, as you do the dishes. They are numb when you lay down to go to sleep at night and are still numb when your brain is awake enough to recognize discomfort in the morning. You wonder at how your own body could turn against you. I guess it was all of those years of taking notes in class, typing of papers, then knititng and more computer time at work. I never knew how hard it would be to just LAY OFF!!!

My Chronicles of Narnia books are still in their shrink wrap. I'm afraid that once I start reading, I won't have anything left for the Boston trip. I miss the time when I would save up my money for the bookstore, spend hours caressing the shelves, debating which new love to take home. Once there, I would devour it completely, then fly off once more.

The sex is so good in this movie that even the audience needs a shower. Odd though, 'cuz I've never really been a Bronson fan.

Freshman Year of High School

I knew an artist, a bi-sexual republican, and a vampire. The artist was a gorgeous Asian, who sold drawings of pictures that people would give her. I didn't find this out 'til the end of senior year. The republican wanted to be president, even though we kept telling her that her own party hated her. One day on a job interview, she was laughed at when she honestly said that her goal in life was to become a lawyer and then president. She would have made a great lawyer.
And then there was the vampire. She also claimed to be a druid (even though all of the druidic families had been killed by the Romans). Although she was always so depressed, I remember her as being the one that was always laughing.
I have no idea what happened to these girls after high school. The four years that we kinda sorta hung out, as I suppose always happened with me and anyone I met, I remember as being four of the most eye-opening for me. Let me put it this way, I didn’t really go out and party until I was about 20. But these girls let me in on a world where it was okay to be different. It was okay to have a personality while wearing the same uniform as everyone else. They were the ones who introduced me to Rocky Horror. That teachers were people, not perfect role models. That there was such a thing as not doing your homework all of the time, and still getting a good grade. That thinking against the norm was what the teachers were really wanting, not the same garbled b.s. year after year.

I’m still working on a few of those.
I always wondered what I would be remembered as.

Dr. Dung

[Not sure if I posted this here or not already, so here it is. A story. About a friend. A foreign friend.]

"Common sense is not so common." I first heard this from a friend of mine, Dr. Dung. I have yet to not smile when I think of it. Since it was him that led me to yahoo360, I figured I should post about him as other more graphic topics escape me at this moment. I have some fond, yet horrifying memories of Dr. Dung. There was the New Year's party, at which no one had gotten too terribly drunk yet I managed to get Dr. Dung to proudly wear a lampshade. I am told that wearing of lamp shades is customary among college students. So, us being college students, and a lamp having shed it's shade, I felt this a task we must accomplish. The photo is among other more revealing photos in my repertoire.
The next memory of Dr. Dung is when we played Trivial Pursuit on a team. And after many (I believe the last count was somewhere above the square root of 105.396.) attempts at trying to answer the final question correctly, we were defeated. However, I do believe we whupped up the competition, as most lain about...some drooling.
The last memory of Dr. Dung that I shall reveal is quite horrifying. I do suggest you take warning the next time you attempt to do what I am about to tell you that I did. One night, among a group of friends, we were scampering about the campus and ended up at the Union. Being as late as it was and as hyper as we were, it was no surprise that we could be found that night on the top level of the parking deck. Imagine laughing. Imagine yelling. Imagine me driving wildly about, attempting to flee as everyone tried to jump onto my van. I thought I had gotten away and proudly sped even faster, when I saw the look on Duck's face. It seemed that I had picked up a little, fuzzy, South African souvenior while speeding around the deck. On the back of my van, gripping madly for his life, was Dr. Dung. He had out ran his fellow playmates! Yes! He had managed to jump onto the van! Only to be taken on a 8.6 second joy ride of death. Perhaps he was too horrified to pound on the glass, warning me to stop. Perhaps he thought that if I did get such a warning, I would only brake sharply so he would fall off, and then roll over him. But alas that did not happen! Instead, I s l o w l y stopped, allowing the stowaway to escape and flee back to his natural urban environment.
That was one of the last times I ever saw Dr. Dung. I hope he has learned his lesson and has stayed away from peculiar (if not very inviting looking rears) of vans...and Robert Picardo.

Hopeful Thinking

I just purchased this. My first Amazon purchase! I have never read these books, and I’m hoping they help with the journey to Boston that is coming up. The movies this winter look wonderful, and actually accurate. (This comes from my knowledge of the cartoons, which I did watch.)

Last night I stopped by a local gaming store. My friends are helping expand it to include a gaming room. I'm quite proud of them. Their group has grown, and while I was there, three shoppers were being persuaded to join with fantastical tales of Exalted. I might persuade someone else I know to run a DnD game....

This weekend I get to go dancing!!! Yes, dancing! Finally!!! I've only waited about a year to go to this place. I'm so sad it's only open in the summer. It's a giant patio next to a river. Sadly, I even made it on my Sims game.

Giggling...I hear giggling...gods...only I would be haunted by evil giggles.

Barely got any sleep last night due to numb arms, wrists and hands. I think I might end up going to the doctor a lot sooner than I thought. I p
robably won't be blogging or checking on other blogs for the rest of the day. However, last night I saw a t-shirt that had me giggling for the rest of the night: I BLOGGED YOUR GIRLFRIEND. Again VJ, I thought of you. That, and D'Hoffryn in 'Selfless' when he looked upon a slaughter in the frat house and stated, 'It looks like someone slaughtered an Abercrombie and Fitch catalogue.' I did a lot of loner giggling last night. And it was good.

Hacker forced new planet discovery out of the closet: "BOFFINS WHO discovered that there was a 10th planet in our solar system, had been sitting on the news for years until a hacker turned over their servers.
Michael Brown, a planetary scientist at the California Institute of Technology, announced the discovery over the weekend. But according to the South African Sunday Telegraph, here, the briefing was hastily arranged after Brown received word that his secure website containing the discovery had been hacked. The unnamed hacker was threatening to release the information.
It transpired that Brown and his friends had been sitting on the information since 2003 when they snapped it with a 122cm telescope at the Palomar Observatory. However they couldn�t confirm much about it until it was analysed again last January. So in the time honoured tradition of boffins everywhere they decided to keep the data from the common people until they knew a bit more. "
