Speculations in the Sleet

  • The ice and snow are holding off until tonight, which gives me extra time to run around. For what? I'm not telling you anything other than it's VERY VERY important.
  • Instead of getting worried when Howl and Sophie paw or chase each other, we kinda stand there, watch, then giggle.
  • I'm considering allowing Howl to help me finish my ink wash drawing.
  • Is it really hard painting your cat?
  • A drawer full of hot chocolate packets and bendy straws is a wonderful thing!
  • At least the inside of my purse smells like feet and not butts!

Kidden Wovens

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
  • That Howl took his bath sitting outside of the shower this morning and did not join me while I was taking mine.
  • Witnessing a snuggle between a man and his kitten.
  • Watching Sophie walk up to Howl, touch noses with him, and then walk away.
  • Realizing that Sophie likes to be treated like a kitten too.
  • Appreciating Howl's sense of cleanliness when he refuses to leave toys on the couch or in another room that is not the living room. They just don't belong there.
  • Being woken up at 2am for a cuddle fest. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Happy Feet

I just watched Happy Feet. There should have been a bit more dancing and singing in it, but really you should recycle. That's what I walked away thinking. That, and there should be more Prince music in this world. Oh, and white people really should not dance on the ice because they look even dorkier. I kinda want to make a Penguin Shaman though. Although I don't know what I would do with all of those stones.

Before the Sleep

I've been good to my body since I got this virus-cold-turkeyepidemic thingy. I have yet to eat popcorn, or ice cream, or chocolate - not even raw sugar!!! However, I still don't think it was too smart of me to get up on the step ladder to change out a lightbulb when I'm dizzy. But it also wasn't too smart of Howl to jump into the litter box while I'm cleaning it out only to leave me a steaming present. But at least Sophie let me sleep until 6am this morning before she demanded that I cuddle with her. It's nice having an appetite again.

The Last Weekend of Hedonism

The last 72 hours have brought me many things. Some pleasant, some odd, and some sneezes.
  • considering buying a helmet
  • it's been too long between deep cleanings
  • counter space is a wonderful thing
  • I hope this is just a 24 hour bug and not the flu
  • Chistmas is nigh
  • realizing that I need people to bake more
  • there are far too many sugar-deprived people out there
  • coming to accept that no one will finish a pan of Igor bars
  • driving from here to Fort Smith should not be that difficult
  • monkeys are fun and cute
  • I want a 'For Dummies' library and I truly believe that I will be the smarter person for it

Watching this video really makes me want to request window-attachable bird feeders for Christmas. I really think I'll be a better cat owner for it. ;)

    No Worms

Autumn is my favorite time of year, so I figured that it's about time I told y'all about one of my favorite movies. Rocket Gibraltar. What's so special about this movie are all of the different components. For example, there are the intricate family dynamics centered around a dying grandfather's birthday. There are many wonderful 'joys of life' that come into the film: favorite books (Anne Rice's "Interview with the Vampire"), favorite artwork (Jackson Pollack), favorite movies (Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire).
Not to mention comedy. I think this was one of Kevin Spacey's first movies, and his character Dwayne Hanson, is quiet but excellent. One of my favorite scenes is when he comes home from the grocery store and spots his brother in law, played by John Glover, lounging on a float in the pool while doing paperwork. Spacey waits, glares at the oblvious Glover, then asks Glover what his favorite Pepperidge Farm cookie is. "Milano." Glover drawls. Spacey then grabs the box of cookies out of the bag, throws it at Glover and yells out, "Here catch." Then watches as his brother in law flails into the pool. Classic.
This movie also holds one of the best narratives thanks to Burt Lancaster. He is tired of the big ta-doo that his kids are making over his birthday, so he gathers all of the grandkids around him and tells them about the Vikings. Sadly I could not find it on the net, but it's mesmerizing. He reveals to them that the one thing he truly wants for his birthday is a Viking funeral. A boat is pushed off into the ocean, the dead's family gathers on the shore and makes a bonfire, then shoots arrows at the sails of the boat. It will burn all night and you know that the person lived a good life if the fire from the boat matches the colors of the setting sun.

Of course, one scene from the movie that I will forever take with me is a six year old Macaulay Culkin running across the yard with a can of gasoline in his arms....
Won't you watch this movie for me this season?

    Caught In the Act

Sophie has been making a big fuss about Howl. She runs by cautiously, then hisses at him over her shoulder. At this point, Howl chooses to leap after her. This has been going on for a few days. Last night after dinner, I happened to notice Sophie walking up to Howl. She was slow and...curious. She sat down in front of him. Cocked her head to the side, opened her mouth and touched noses with him.

She refused Howl's attempt immediately after this nose-kiss for some more tenderness by slapping him in the face with her little furry paw, hissed and walked away. What a tease!

    Tricky Kitty

So, this morning as I was leaving... I looked in the kitchen and only saw Sophie.
I picked up my stuff and opened the door.
Sophie was still the only cat in there.
I walked out the door and turned to close the door
Sophie was still the only cat in the kitchen.
I closed and locked the door
Then I put my stuff in the passenger seat.
I walked around the back of the car.
And who do i see sniffing my back driver's-side tire?
    Howl.
Picked up the cat, opened the door,
    put Howl down,
    right into Sophie's face.
    She hissed.
    Sorry Howl.
    Such a morning.

It's a ritual sacrifice, with pie.

Every year, in the throws of depression because Halloween is over -- not to mention the major sugar crash -- I start to wonder why it is that Thanksgiving isn't my favorite holiday. It's the perfect 'stress' holiday because all you do is visit with people AND EAT!!! One of the best things about Thanksgiving is that you can convince people that your mother's Green Bean Casserole is the best...which it is ;). I think I even found a new favorite dessert recipe. Now...all I have left to do is try it out on some starving victims. PUMPKIN CHEESECAKE! Anya is so brutal.

Has anyone else noticed that the news has been almost Jennifer Lopez free lately? I'm not sure how I feel about this.

    His Name Suits Him

There is a new addition to our family. He is currently stinky. His name is Howl. And the first night he showed up he was very, very drunk. At one point after bumping noses with Sophie, Howl was slapped, and he was down. Boom. Did I mention that he does not have a tail? Yup. A manx. So, he was born that way. He looks a lot like Sophie.

    Apologize Now, Apologize Again Later

So I had this dream a few nights ago and I really wanted to post about it but I wasn't sure how because of the delicate subject matter. It involved someone I know cursing at these kids while we're on our way to the zoo. To get to the zoo you had to walk across a log and a damn that these beavers had built and you also had to watch out for the horseshoe crabs in the creek as you walked over it. We got to the zoo but it wasn't very exciting. We all lined up to get back on the bus, but there was a bit of a flood and all of the beavers and crabs were acting all erractic and when you approached the creek to cross it the beavers and crabs started to bite you. ... There was just no good way to post this.
