Pollen + Light Rain = Pond Scum

My car has turned green! There is so much pollen in the air that within the last four days it has turned everything green! The clouds have been threatening to rain the last THREE WEEKS but all we got is a sprinkle. Do you have any idea how hard it is to see out of a windshield alredy covered with pollen when it rains and turns the pollen into a thick muck that would normally be found in the deep ponds of Dagobah? Huh? Do ya?
*sings* At the car wash! Ooa! Ooa!

While working on my art project out side of class, I ran into a few problems. Besides working with eggs, I discovered that the window I am putting them up in is warped. So they kinda fall. Well, it came to be break time and my friends from class walked outside. One guy said, "Hey! It's time for a break!" And of course one row of eggs fell and broke. Oye.

Where's the Chicken Ranch?

Glenn surprised me with a birthday trip up to Branson!
We woke up uber early to get to Silver Dollar City just as it was opening. The air was fresh, Wal-mart greeters were in place and the roads were curvy. (NOTE: Next time bring ginger ale.) As soon as we were through the gates we began eating everything in sight! I also proceeded to tell everyone that we ran into that I was there for my birthday. We rode some coasters, discovered that I was married to a crack shot, saw an egg get sucked into a glass, and I picked a pearl. ;) It was a wonderful day.
After a quick moment to relax at the hotel, we were off again! This time to the Dixie Stampede. No, Dolly wasn't there, but there was a pretty horse named Hammer. I'm not sure how it makes up for it but it does. Glenn giggled when the lady next to him asked the waiter for some silverware. His response was "We just ran out!" I guess she missed the opening announcement that your right hand was your fork and your left hand was your knife. We sat on the South side and I felt a bit like a trait, thankfully the food was delicious so I managed to keep my mouth occupied.
The next morning at breakfast I was treated to a large chocolate milk! I resisted the temptation to go to the Krispy Kreme next door. Then, we were on the road back home, again, quite curvy. Once home, Howl told us everything that happened while we were gone.
It was a lovely weekend and a great surprise!

I Like to Be Prepared

Colleen says:
I just thought "CRAP! I haven't started my Christmas Lists yet!"

Sarah Smile says:
Hee.

Colleen says:
And then I remembered that it's March and Christmas is three months BEHIND me.

Sarah Smile says:
Yeah, Colsy. Sheesh. You've ONLY GOT, like NINE MORE MONTHS.

Colleen says:
Last year I waited until August to start them.

Sarah Smile says:
Slacker.
Hee.

Colleen says:
But technically speaking...I've been keeping lists on Amazon

End of World Dream

I usually have an armageddon dream at least once a month. This is what I dreamed this morning between 4am and 6am.

Fayetteville was a small city, like a hotel, with no streets. In fact, there was a hotel. Everyone was in town because we were excited about a football game or New Years. I was there with Jenny and a little boy. Some people show up and claim that they are orchestrating everything and that the end of the world will happen in a few years time. I think that they are full of crap. Even if they have that information, you cannot run someone's life. And they tell us what is going to happen to us on the last day of the world. Jenny is supposed to go straight to this hotel room where she will open the door and the sun will be there to enlighten her. I was going to meet someone in a sweater vest and I would not be able to help what I would do or say next and then eventually I would go to this other room and that's when armageddon would happen. I still think that they are full of crap, but try to remember the hotel room they told Jenny so that I could prevent it. Then they kidnap us and the boy and say that we were to start our eternal life with them. We were supposed to have eternal youth, but all they did was kidnap us. The little boy was freaking out. It was at this point in the dream when I started to hit our kidnappers and the other brainwashed victims at the compound. We run into a guy that is like Sloth from the Goonies, except his head is okay, it's just his teeth that are crooked and tiny. He bites me as I slap him; he is also in a straightjacket. We realize he has the gift of prophecy. They boy is freaking out and starts to ask questions, I then ask 'How will the boy die." Sloth relates some horrible tragic death, and the boy starts to freak out. I try to explain to the boy that because he will die a tragic death, then he does not have eteranl youth, therefore our kidnappers are full of crap. It's about five years later and I have a little girl. She calls some of the blue-face painted brainwashed ladies that they are ugly. We are trucked into town, they think that we are brainwashed enough that we won't run away. I try to escape immediately thru the bathroom window. They let me, and then everything starts to happen like they say. I run into the person in the sweatervest. I try to find Jenny but can't. I go thru the door with the little girl, she turns into my cat Sophie. I see some family members and hug them. That's when the angels start to descend. The sun gets so bright, and the angels have wings, but are kind of robotic. Almost like the angels from Neon Genensis Evangelion. Everyone watches and are lifted off of the ground about a foot. I try to jump to join them, but I don't float. I pick up Sophie, she and I watch the angels land while sitting on top of a pick up truck. Some people's faces change. Some grow wings. When they land everything goes back to normal, but some people are changed. No one really talks about what happened. I hug Sophie.

When I wake up Sophie is laying on my stomach.

A Note From the Universe

Seeing this helped me forget about my end of the world dream last night. I tried to stop it from happening but Sophie and I ended up sitting on top of a pick up truck watching it happen anyway. Sorry guys.
Do you have any idea, Colleen, of how many fans you have here in the unseen?
Students from far and wide. Admirers from near and far. Friends from other lands and other times. And do you know what they talk about the most when your name comes up?
Besides your French Toast?
Besides your saunter?
Besides your home here with the holiday lights you leave up year-round, the roaming wildebeests in the backyard, and the answering machine that says,"Off having the time of my life in the jungles of time and space..."
Your belief in the goodness of others.

About Damn Time!

As of now there is no bill to protect animals from neglect. Now, we have two competing bills.
The Arkansas Senate and House passed competing bills Tuesday that would create Arkansas’ first felony offense of animal cruelty.
The Senate passed Senate Bill 777 by Sen. Sue Madison, D-Fayetteville, 21-5. The felony of “aggravated cruelty” would apply in certain cases of torture, abuse and severe neglect of dogs, cats and horses. As a Class D felony this would be punishable by up to six years in prison and a fine of up to $ 10, 000.
The House passed House Bill 2788, which also refers only to treatment of dogs, cats and horses. A first offense of “aggravated cruelty” would be a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in prison and a $ 1, 000 fine. A second offense within five years would be a Class D felony. It passed 57-26.
“I think the state needs to make a strong statement,” said the House bill’s sponsor, Rep. Rick Saunders, D-Hot Springs.
The bills now switch chambers. A spokesman for Gov. Mike Beebe said the governor will sign whichever bill reaches his desk.
The measures differ in the definition of the offense.
The Senate bill says aggravated cruelty exists if a person tortures the animal or takes any other action for the purpose of inflicting or prolonging pain or kills the animal in an especially depraved manner. It says that means the offender “relishes the killing, evidencing debasement or perversion,” or shows indifference to the animal’s suffering.
SB 777 also would apply if a person fails to provide care that results in prolonged suffering or death or subjects one of those animals to certain types of injury or trauma in the presence of a minor.
The House bill defines it as knowingly torturing, mutilating, maiming, burning, poisoning or starving the animal.
HB 2788 is favored by the Farm Bureau and the Arkansas Poultry Federation, which have opposed past efforts to create a felony state animal-cruelty law.
The Humane Society and animal rescue groups prefer the Senate bill.
Under both bills, representatives of animal-welfare organizations could become authorized to execute search warrants to enforce the aggravated cruelty law, but only after being trained and certified by the state.
The training would include animal health and husbandry, and instruction on law enforcement procedure.
When serving the search warrants, the organizations ’ representatives would have to be accompanied by certified law enforcement officials.
The House bill would allow judges to order offenders into psychiatric treatment; the Senate bill would make such treatment mandatory.
The bills would expressly allow lawful veterinary care, the killing of animals to protect livestock and poultry, and exempt educational and research institutions regulated by federal animal-welfare laws.
The Senate bill passed with the support of Sen. Shawn Womack, R-Mountain Home, although it was reported on the Senate floor that Womack was in the hospital after suffering a “cardiac episode” at the Capitol on Tuesday morning.

Decuto

Last night both cats received a bath. We always give Sophie hers first because she's a typical cat. Hates the water. Wants absolutely nothing to do to it. Generally she turns into a hippie at a No Nukes! rally and just goes limp and turns into dead weight as we try to wash her. So you can imagine our surprise when Glenn was able to let go of her and just wash her because she was so calm. Howl's easy. He practically sits down, all the while looking longingly at the water coming out of the sprayer at the end of the tub, hoping to lick it. After everyone had their bath, it was bed time. Howl was so tired that, as Glenn pet his little head, he made soft grunting noises*.

No Pictures, Just Thoughts

  • My birthday was really good.
  • It started with finding a really sore spot on my head.
  • I was sung to by the staff of Applebee's.
  • Saw a drag queen at a bar in ARKANSAS. C'mon people, that's impressive.
  • Thought I saw a midget but it was just a very short 4'9"? petite lady with a 6'+? guy.
  • New sheets!
  • Played Apples 2 Apples and Guillotine.
  • Got a PostSecret book ;)
  • Took a nice long drive by myself.
  • Woke up and watched pieces of 'Fiddler on the Roof' and 'Xanadu'.
  • Helped a friend get a dwarf lop bunny. SOOOOOO adorable.
  • Watched my cat Howl get a little freaked out by the bunny.
  • Attended traffic court for the first time ever. ;)
  • Collected Care Bears mini tins, Care Bears stickers and Care Bears figurines.
  • Found a pirate with a mace to put on my car dashboard.
  • Gave his sword to my hula Lilo doll.
  • The My Little Pony next to them now looks quite nervous.
  • Considering buying a bookshelf.
  • Looking forward to blowing some eggs later this week.

  • Strawberry Shortcake AND My Little Pony stickers.
  • Candles!!!
  • Had lunch with some old friends.
  • Discovered two dogs on my lawn. One of which was of a breed that I have been interested in. They peed. They barked. They ran away.
  • Hoping to add another bookshelf.

Who Said I Have a Hard Head?

So...Thursday night as I sat down on the couch I noticed a very sore spot on the back of my head. At first I thought the obvious: zit. But no. I poked and prodded for about fifteen minutes and still could not find any kind of peak. I started to worry. It was located at the base of my skull. Was I hit over the head with a metal bar recently? Did I have any major head traumas? This wasn't just a sore spot. It felt a bit soft, and HURT. Like an external, isolated headache. I felt that if I shaved the back of my head and looked in the mirror that I would see a horrible bruise. Glenn checked it out and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Do people sporadically get 'sore spots'? It was suggested that maybe I hit my head on my headboard in the middle of the night and I'm just now feeling it. It's odd, I've felt it from Thursday night until just now. All weekend I kept checking it: yuppers, still sore. Most of the time I kept looking at my hand to see if there was blood. Any ideas?

My Life on the Beach

Inspired by this.
My conversation with VJ about it:
Colleen says: I want to open up a bookstore called Books On the Beach. And that's where it will be.
Sarah says: Ooooooooooooooooooo.
Colleen says: All paperbacks. Under $5
Sarah says: All the books will be justtheweeniestbit warped and have a few grains of sand in them, for character?
Colleen says: Of course,
Sarah says: *nods*
Colleen says: but that will happen naturally.
Sarah says: I love it already.
Colleen says: And, we buy the books back.
Sarah says: Oooooooo, good idea.
Colleen says: Return the book, get $3 back.
Sarah says: NICE.
Sarah says: I will shop there A LOT.
Colleen says: A "Sandals Optional" sign will hang out front
Sarah says: I love it.
Colleen says: The books that are so badly beaten will sit in a moveable cart that will be rolled outside every morning and back in at night.
Sarah says: Perfect.
Colleen says: If they are so bad, then they get burned in the yearly bonfire.
Sarah says: What a glorious end for an old worn out book.

Your logic is insane and happenstance, like that of a troll.

  • Listening to Aud and Olaf in Selfless makes me want to learn to speak Scandinavian.
  • Dwarf lop bunnies are precious.
  • I've never seen Howl so confused in his life.
  • Hunting for Care Bears is fun!
  • Dogs magically show up.

RECALLED PET FOOD

Hey guys, I just heard about this last night. Certain dog and cat foods have been recalled due to pets getting kidney failure.
The recall covers the company's "cuts and gravy" style food, which consists of chunks of meat in gravy, sold in cans and small foil pouches between December 3 and March 6 throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Menu foods has a list of the various brands, including Iams, here at http://www.menufoods.com/recall/.

Video Day

We borrowed Katamari Damacy from a friend and had to get a copy for ourselves. This is a video of Colleen on Katamari Damacy.

An actual video clip from the game.

Kitten toygers playing. Watching this video makes me remember Howl and Sophie playing last night. Howl was in a pouncing mood. At one point, Sophie new that he was behind her down the hall way, when she felt him make his leap at her, she crunched down and Howl leap frogged right over her.

"It's a Sin" by the Pet Shop Boys with video clips from the series Neon Genesis Evangelion. I listened to this song repeatedly about seven years ago.

When sperm whales attack.

Llama song.

Imagine if you left your home. Would you go to Burma? Would you sit among the natives as they gathered for a sing along? What song do you imagine them singing?

  • I'm making an egg waterfall and need to find about two dozen emu eggs.
  • I saw "Because I Said So" this weekend. Cute movie but Diane Keaton's style of acting was really driving me crazy. I don't mean the character but specifically her style of acting. Have you ever noticed that a lot of actors can only cry or act upset one way? Or maybe they are only ever allowed to act emotions a certain way because that is what is expected of them as an older actor. It's what their fans expect. Because fame says so?
  • Missing your regular fast food person.
  • Learning how to roll my ball around in Katamari Damacy.
  • I ran around doing a lot of errands this weekend. Before leaving for one such errand, I told Glenn to take a nap because he was so tired. He did. He also yelled at Howl for meowing at the kitchen window above our sink. See, Howl's been a sneaky kitty what with climbing on the new kitchen counter so...clearly Glenn thought that Howl was just lamenting about how he was not allowed to climb up on the counter anymore. We had also been discussing last names for the cats. Clearly it would be "Sophie Good Girl" and "Howl the @$$". Because they are.... About half an hour later I come home. Howl greets me at the door, but not Sophie. I start to call her. Walk around the house looking for her. Glenn hasn't seen her. I go outside and start calling her. Nothing. I turn around to go back inside. Then I see Sophie sitting in the pile of old cabinets that we have been removing from the kitchen. I approach slowly and put on my calming "Here, Kitty kitty" voice. Sophie meows at me and walks towards the back yard. I follow slowly and nicely. She keeps giving me a 'get away' look and keeps making her way thru the haphazardly thrown pieces of cabinetry into the backyard. Finally, I nab her and put her inside. This is when I notice my flower pot knocked into the sink and the broken screen above the window. Yuppers. She jumped out of the window. And tried to about four times that weekend. Or at least I think she did since I kept finding the flower pot in the sink. We couldn't bring ourselves to yell at Sophie though. We decided to blame the whole ordeal on Howl since it was probably his idea anyway.
  • Ordering a 9 foot long bag. It's not for what you think. Two words: CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS.
  • Wishing all four way stop signs were replaced with stop lights.
  • A regular neighborhood dog made his way over to our house Sunday around 5pm. He was cute and springy. Looked like a long haired doberman pincher. Didn't get picked up until 9pm. I was actually making plans to drop him off at the animal shelter the next day.
  • Took one too many DanActive's on Sunday and ended up puking my guts out around 11pm Sunday night. Let me tell you, it was not all glitter and rainbows like you think it would be.
  • Migraine. ALL. WEEK. LONG. And not the kind with a 'real' headache. The annoying sore/tingly neck kind that works on your nerves.
  • I had no idea our library has so many Bollywood films.
  • Emergency! I had to scrounge up a cat costume and make-up ASAP! I also managed time enough to create a face and make-up design with instructions. The best part was that it was known that I would have this stuff.
  • Of all the places in the U.S.A., Arkansas is the last place that I would think it HARD, nay IMPOSSIBLE, to find Nascar memorabilia.
  • Washed the drapes.
  • Breathing.

*Edited to say: When I can eat out or order my breakfast, lunch and dinner. And pay someone to fix snack foods and tasty beverages for me all day.

Pictures I Found Today

I nearly squealed when I saw this.
The first paragraph, rather the last sentence of the first paragraph, made my eyes go wide and my breath stop in fear.
I love the idea of an art series dedicated to an animal. But more importantly, these pieces aren't in a museum but displayed around town.
Now I want to go to India because of their love of elephants. An entire series of pictures like this would amuse me to no end.
How...beautiful.

Tie a Bell to Him

This is a brief 15 minute window into my weekend.
  • Realize you are missing your phone.
  • Rush outside to your car.
  • Search through car thoroughly for phone.
  • Realize that phone never made it to the car.
  • Head into the house to use husband's phone.
  • See the good cat, Sophie, standing OUTSIDE.
  • Yell at Sophie.
  • Watch Sophie hurriedly rushed back inside.
  • Realize that the door was left open while you thoroughly searched your car for the phone.
  • Close door after Sophie goes back inside.
  • Begin search for Howl.
  • "HOWL" = the cat who makes good any left open door to take an adventure walk outside. Even if it's snowing. Or there's a tornado coming.
  • Take keys out of pocket and jingle them while gently calling "Ho-owl".
  • Look by outside bookshelf (a.k.a. the first spot Howl goes when he is outside).
  • Look in the backyard (a.k.a. the second spot Howl goes when he is outside).
  • Start to panic because you're not sure where to look since you never had to find a third spot.
  • Suddenly remember that you once found Howl sitting calmly behind your back tire when you didn't even realize he was outside.
  • Run around both cars without finding Howl.
  • Glance up and down the street and in front of your house.
  • Wonder if you should start to look up trees since cats are typically found up trees in movies.
  • Spot a cat standing outside of your neighbors house in the bushes.
  • Make sure that the cat is Howl since hearing two stories this weekend of people mistakenly picking up the wrong 'cat' sitting on their porch in the middle of the night.
  • By 'cat' I mean one was actually a possom.
  • Gently approach the cat while still jingling your car keys and calling "Ho-owl".
  • Take a brief sigh of relief as Howl slowly approaches you.
  • Try not to scream out as a car rushes by because this is the first time that you will actually see Howl get scared by something.
  • Slowly walk up to Howl; pick him up.
  • Again, making sure that it is Howl and not some neighbor's tailless cat.
  • Berate him nicely that if he goes outside he will no longer be able to have cuddle time or play with his mice.
  • Get inside house with Howl.
  • Firmly lock door.
  • Sigh.
  • Collapse into bed.
  • Remember that your phone problem has not been solved.
